PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of easily setting a heat insulating material inside a wall of an external wall of an existing building, for instance. SOLUTION: According to the method, a horizontally extending slit opening 12 is formed in a wall surface 6a facing the interior of a room 10, at a location near a ceiling, so as to communicate with the wall internal space 3, and the planar heat insulating material 13 is fed into the wall internal space 3 via the opening 12 to fill the same. When filling work is completed, the slit opening 12 is blocked. The heat insulating material 13 is formed of a mat-shaped heat insulating material including glass wool that is compressive and restorable in a thickness direction, and it is preferred that the mat-shaped heat insulating material 13 is compressed in the thickness direction by feeding rollers 14, 14 of a roller feeding type heat insulating material filler 11, and then inserted into the slit opening 12. To recover the wall surface 6a after filling the heat insulating material, a ceiling cornice 18 is attached to the wall surface 6a so as to conceal the slit opening 12 on a rear side of the ceiling cornice.
