PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance reprocessed magnesium alloy material produced from magnesium alloy cut waste, which has more improved strength properties than those of the material produced from a virgin material. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the high-strength magnesium alloy member comprises positively introducing oxide into the reprocessed material when consolidation/hot-extrusion-molding the magnesium alloy cut waste, and simultaneously uniformly and densely dispersing the oxide in the reprocessed material, to strength the alloy member through both of grain refining and the homogeneous dispersion of the oxide (Orowan strengthening). The product is manufactured from the alloy member. The magnesium alloy cut waste has a high possibility of causing spontaneous combustion, and accordingly is subjected to an expensive treatment such as incineration treatment and immersion treatment into a ferric chloride solution, under present circumstances. But, the above manufacturing method can comparatively simply produce a high-strength material from the cut waste which has been considered as a dangerous substance. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
