PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acid-decomposing alkenyl phenol star polymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution and a controlled structure. SOLUTION: This star polymer comprises a core section of a polymer derived from an acrylate derivative represented by formula (II) (wherein R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each independently selected from a hydrogen atom and a 1-4C alkyl group, R<SP>6</SP>is a≥2C hydrocarbon group of≥2 valency containing no quaternary carbon atom, x is an integer of≥1, and R<SP>4</SP>may be same or different when x is≥2), and an arm section of a polymer chain containing a repeating unit derived from a specific alkenyl phenol derivative.
