PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging device in which the substantial number of transfer steps for information charges is reduced. SOLUTION: The solid state imaging device comprises a plurality of transfer electrodes 14-1 to 14-3, and is provided with a plurality of vertical shift registers crossing the transfer electrodes 14-1 to 14-3, and a horizontal shift register, transferring the information charges in a horizontal direction, in which each bit is matched with outputs from these vertical shift registers. A first output gate electrode 16 and a second output gate electrode 18, common in each column of a plurality of the vertical shift registers, in which order of array is turned back in an odd number sequence and an even number sequence, and a third output gate electrode 30, common in each column of a plurality of the vertical shift registers, which is arranged on the output side of the first output gate electrode 16 and the second output gate electrode 18, are arranged at a connection part between the vertical shift register and the horizontal shift register, and an output control clock controlled independently of a vertical clock pulse can be applied to the third output gate electrode 30.
