PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pod type electric propulsion device not requiring a seal mechanism of a complex structure and capable of reducing cost by simplifying the structure. SOLUTION: The pod type electric propulsion device storing a propulsion electric motor in a housing 2 provided on a bottom part of a hull 1 is provided with a hollow part 3 provided on the housing and intrudable with sea water; a rotor 4 of the electric motor rotatably arranged in the hollow part; a propulsion propeller 5 fixed to the inner side of the rotor; a stator 7 of the electric motor provided on the housing and arranged opposed to the rotor; and magnetic bearings 8, 9 provided between both end peripheral edges of the rotor and the housing opposed to both end peripheral edges respectively and rotatably supporting the rotor in a non-contact manner by magnetic force.
