PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patient carrier capable of transferring a patient by projecting a transfer bed on the right or left side of the apparatus with a big stroke using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The patient carrier comprises the transfer bed 10 which is protruded to the right or left of a body 3 using a transfer mechanism and having an upper winding body 5 and right and left lower winding bodies 8 and 9, a first length adjusting section 22 for adjusting the length of an upper belt 4 wound around the upper winding body 5, a second length adjusting section 27 for adjusting the length of lower belts 6 and 7 wound around the lower winding bodies 8 and 9, a driving device for driving the first and the second length adjusting sections, and breaking devices 39, 40 and 41 installed on the first length adjusting section. The patient carrying device is switched among a condition where the upper belt 4 on the top face of the upper winding body 5 is retracted with respect to the transfer bed 10 while the transfer bed 10 is protruded, a condition where the upper belt 4 on the top face of the upper winding body 5 advances with respect to the transfer bed 10 while the transfer bed 10 is retracted, and a condition where the upper belt 4 on the top face of the upper winding body 5 stops moving with respect to the transfer bed 10 while the transfer bed 10 is protruded or retracted.
