PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical body passage sensor which can detect the passage of the spherical bodies exactly even when they pass being linked together and moreover, enables the identification of the foreign matters such as false balls with a smaller diameter. SOLUTION: In the spherical body passage sensor 1, as the spherical bodies B pass through a spherical passage hole 3, the passage of the spherical bodies B is detected by the first and second optical type detection parts 5 and 6. The detection positions are set away from each other on both sides of the spherical body passage hole 3 to get the detection lights 5c and 6c shut down only while the center part of each spherical body passes and hence, the beams of detection light will not be shut down when the head side part or the rear end side part of each spherical body passes in the direction of letting the spherical bodies pass. As a result, even when the spherical bodies B pass being linked together, the number of the spherical bodies B passing can be detected exactly. Since the distance L between the optical axes of the beams of detection light is made slightly smaller than the diameter of each spherical body B, thereby enabling the exact identification of the foreign matters such as false balls with a smaller diameter.
