The method involves providing a fuel quantity depending upon a value, which is influenced for a time point, of an air quantity. The beginning of the realization of change requests which occur during the pre-storage time, for the air quantity lies in a temporal distance before another time point. Another value is used for the air quantity under consideration of the realization of the requests.
