Sieve unit comprises a comb-slotted metal screen (2) which has one or more transverse shafts (8) rotating below it. The shafts are fitted with radially extending blades (9) which intersect the screen, and carry a proportion of material downwards through the screen. The blades may be fixed or sliding on the drive shaft; the sieve screen may be fixed or reciprocated parallel to the shaft axis.
