PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a two-dimensional image by scanning a one-dimensional image and to reduce the size and cost in an apparatus structure using a one-dimensional light modulating element and a light deflecting means. SOLUTION: In a light scanning device 1 equipped with an optical system 6 including a light deflecting means 8 within the system, and a one-dimensional light modulating element 4, the one-dimensional light modulating element 4 is placed in the object side of the optical system 6, while the light deflecting means 8 is placed at a diaphragm position. A front group 7 with positive power and a rear group 9 with positive power are placed in the optical system 6 so that a one-dimensional image obtained by light modulation by the one-dimensional light modulating element 4 is scanned by the light deflecting means 8 to form a two-dimensional image on an image plane of the optical system 6.
