It is possible to effectively transmit data for generating a 3D map image via a network. A 3D map distribution server device (1) stores shape data on a plurality of buildings plotted on a ground for generating a 3D map image and firstly transmits a list of shape data on the buildings within a section and having position information on the region or the building to a client PC (4). According to the list information in the list, the client PC (4) selects shape data required for display and transmits a transmission request of the selected shape data to the 3D map distribution server device (1). The 3D map distribution server device (1) receives the request and transmits the shape data relating to the request to the client PC (4).
