The method involves comparing original and new memory images (40, 42) of a non-volatile rewritable memory to identify sub ranges of the images, where the sub ranges differ from one another. Data are recorded for identified sub ranges of the images to generate patch data, where the recorded data define the sub ranges and new program codes for the sub ranges.
