PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic optical fiber having small optical transmission loss. SOLUTION: This is a plastic optical fiber containing poly(meth)acrylate. The plastic optical fiber is intermittently irradiated with a polarizing wave of an infrared region from the surface to generate a sound wave based on an optoacoustic effect. The rocking vibration absorbing dichroic ratio of the poly(meth)acrylate principal chain CH (CD if poly(meth)acrylate is deuterated) obtained by detecting the sound wave is 1.05 or below in the plastic optical fiber.
