PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus equipped with a transmitter and a receiver capable of automatically positioning an ultrasonic tomographic image and an anatomical image of an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) apparatus, or the like, at the same position as the ultrasonic tomographic image. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus transmits and receives ultrasound to a subject to be tested by using a search unit and displays a B-mode image. It is equipped with an image recording means for recording a stereoscopic image data of the subject to be tested, obtained by the image diagnostic apparatus, and the search unit has a transmitter for generating a triaxial orthogonal magnetic field or a receiver for detecting the triaxial orthogonal magnetic field. The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus detects the position of the receiver in the coordinate space set by the transmitter and the triaxial orthogonal distortion of the receiver, and detects the position of the search unit. The tomographic image of the position corresponding to the specific tomographic image position of the B-mode image is obtained by using the output of the transmitter and the receiver from the stereoscopic image data recorded to the image recording means, and is displayed together with the B-mode image.
