PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing control device of an internal combustion engine capable of effectively preventing temporary performance reduction in a catalyst by oxygen when cutting fuel, without strengthening an engine brake. SOLUTION: This valve timing control device has intake valve closing timing adjusting mechanisms 8a and 9a for adjusting the valve closing timing of an intake valve 7a of an engine 1 for arranging a three way catalyst 20 in an exhaust passage 18, and a fuel cut means 31 for stopping fuel supply to the engine in response to the whole closing operation of an accelerator pedal 34. When operating the fuel cut means 31 by controlling operation of the intake valve closing timing adjusting mechanisms 8a and 9a, the valve closing timing of the intake valve is delayed so that a part of suction air is blown over to an intake system in a compression stroke.
