PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a raw material charging method where, in a bell type blast furnace, in the case a raw material deposition layer is formed inside the furnace, the segregation in the grain sizes of iron ore (mainly, sintered ore) in the furnace radial direction is easily relaxed by a simple and inexpensive means, and the distribution of a gas flow is improved, so as to improve a gas utilization factor. SOLUTION: The falling position x on a large bell 4 of a raw material 8 from a small bell hopper 3 is controlled to the radial region of 0.70 to 0.85 of the lowest part diameter (internal diameter )Da of the large bell hopper 5, so as to relax the segregation of powder or fine grains in the large bell hopper, and the same is distributively charged from the large bell hopper to the inside 1i of the furnace, thus a raw material deposition layer 8f with a grain size distribution where the ratio of the powder or fine grains in the region of the furnace center-the region of the intermediate part reaches the range of 1.0 to 2.5% is formed.
