PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing apparatus capable of easily releasing compressed wood from a mold without damaging the surface aesthetic appearance of the compressed wood after wood is compressed using a mold, and a processing method. SOLUTION: Wood is compressed by the processing apparatus equipped with first and second molds for holding the wood to be processed to apply compression force thereto, a vibration producing means which comes into contact with or approaches at least either one of the first and second molds to produce vibration of a predetermined frequency and a control means for controlling the operation of the vibration producing means and, after compression is released, the vibration of the predetermined frequency is transmitted to the mold permitting the contact or approach of the vibration producing means.
