PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mechanically change a valve characteristic, while restraining an increase in inertial mass of a movable part, in a variable valve system. SOLUTION: A control cam 134 is fixed to a control shaft 132. Intermediate members 162 and 164 for transmitting driving force to a rocking member 150 from a driving cam 122, are sandwiched and supported from three directions by a cam surface of this control cam 134, a slide surface 156 of a rocking member 150 and a cam surface 124 of a driving cam 122. A position on the slide surface 156 of the intermediate members 162 and 164 and a position on the cam surface 124 of the driving cam 122, are interlocked and changed by rotating the control cam 134.
