The cross member extending under the windshield aperture for a motor vehicle comprises a part for supporting a lower edge (30) of a windshield (32) of the vehicle. This cross member is made of a plastic material, optionally reinforced by glass fibers and comprises reinforcing ribs (10) located in the cross section thereof and integrated in the cross member. The cross member can be provided in the form of an upper part (4) and of a lower part (8) that are assembled together. Said reinforcing ribs are integrated in the upper part and/or the lower part or are provided in the form of a single part including the reinforcing ribs. The cross member is advantageously molded by injection.
