A display capable of maintaining display quality and concealing a display image from a specific direction by mode switching trough a simple constitution. A portable telephone (1) comprises a main LCD, and an SW-LCD arranged in the optical path of light transmitted through the main LCD and adapted for switching a visible image electrically between a single image display mode and a multiple image display mode. In the multiple image display mode, the SW-LCD applies a voltage to a liquid crystal layer so that an image displayed on a video image display means is visible from the front direction, and the image displayed on the video image display means overlapped with a switching image formed by a display switching means is visible from an oblique direction. The switching image is formed by so patterning at least one transparent electrode film for applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer that the transparent electrode film has an area larger than 50% of the display screen.
