<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for executing processing requiring that the length of an original is known even when the original is a non standard size without having to measure the dimension in direction of length of the original (transporting direction) before hand. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an original reading unit 17 producing an image data by reading the original and an image forming means forming the image on transfer paper according to the image data. When the processing requiring that the length of the original is known is carried out, the original S placed on an original platen 20 is transported in a predetermined direction and the length of the original S is detected and the original is read by the original reading unit by transporting the original S in the opposite direction after detecting the length of the original. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
