PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain illuminating light of high uniformity in an illuminating device using a plurality of laser light sources, and an image generation device. SOLUTION: An illuminating device 1A includes collimator lenses 3a provided for a plurality of laser light sources 2a respectively and optical systems 3b disposed in succeeding stages of respective collimator lenses and superposes near field images of respective laser light sources to illuminate a linear radiation object (a linear optical modulator or the like) 4. they are configured so as to satisfy ¾Δθ¾<(w/fc) wherein; fc is the focal length of each collimator lens 3a; w is the width of a near field image relating to each laser light source 2a; andΔθis a relative angular displacement of adjacent emitted light beams of an emitted luminous flux transmitted through collimator lenses from respective laser light sources.
