The sensor has piezoelectric cable pieces (1-3) arranged independently from one another at a bumper of a vehicle in such a manner that distinguishable segments (A-E) are perpendicular to a driving direction along a horizontal vehicle extension. A collision place is determined from the evaluation of the number and intensity of sensor signals received from the segments, where the sensor signals indicate the collision.
