Method for examination of coatings applied to metal substrates, e.g. galvanized steel plate, wherein a sample piece of the coated metal substrate is subjected to a photo-thermal detection method, e.g. photo- thermal radiometry or a photo-acoustic method. The invention also relates to a corresponding apparatus for implementing the inventive method.
