Producing a nanocrystalline diamond material with rod-shaped crystals comprises heat treating fullerene at 1500-2300[deg]C and 15-25 GPa for at least 45 minutes. Independent claims are also included for: (1) diamond material produced as above in which the crystals are aggregated together; (2) metalworking tool with a working surface comprising rod-shaped nanocrystalline diamond crystals; (3) pressure stamp for a high-pressure cell comprising rod-shaped nanocrystalline diamond crystals.
