<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast of an image display device (projector or the like). <P>SOLUTION: The image display device has a wavelength selective polarizing beam splitter shown as follows. The wavelength selective polarizing beam splitter has such characteristic that it transmits light being first polarized light and reflects light being second polarized light whose polarization direction is orthogonal to that of the first polarized light concerning light in a first wavelength region, and transmits or reflects both of the light being the first polarized light and the light being the second polarized light concerning light in a second wavelength region different from the first wavelength region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
