<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fuel from leaking from a crack on a fuel tank when a collision occurs. <P>SOLUTION: A body 70 includes a gas generator 50 for generating a given expanding gas instantly, and a fuel solidifying agent 30 for solidifying a fuel. The body 70 is placed inside the fuel tank 400, which is covered with an air bag 10 capable of absorbing impact. The fuel tank 400 is provided with a valve 20 which opens at a prescribed pressure to make the inside and outside of the fuel tank 400 communicate with each other. A G sensor 40 detecting the acceleration of the fuel tank 400 is provided, and detection of an acceleration larger than a reference value by the G sensor initiates the generation of the gas by the gas generator 50. The pressure of the generated gas forces the fuel solidifying agent 30 to jet from the body 70 to the fuel and solidify it. The gas pressure opens the valve 20 also, allowing the gas to flow out of the fuel tank 400 to expand the air bag 10, which eases impact applied to the fuel tank 400. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
