PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forked arresting tool having a gripping portion fastened thereto via a force amplifying mechanism and kept in the fastened condition. SOLUTION: The forked arresting tool comprises a shaft 1 and a handle 2 each having a length enough to keep a sufficient distance from an arrested person, a base 3 fixed to the shaft 1, two large gears 5, 5' which are turnably provided on the base 3 in engagement therewith and one of which is fixed to the front end of the handle 2 and turned on the handle 2, two small gears 6, 6' engaging with the two large gears 5, 5', respectively, turnably on the base 3, two catch parts 4, 4' fixed to the small gears 6, 6', respectively, and intersecting each other on their front end sides, and latch mechanisms 7, 8 formed on the large gear 5 for preventing the movement of the catch parts 4, 4' to the directions of enlargement.
