PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft construction method for providing the sure water cut-off effect, by solving the problem of water leakage from bottom plate concrete in a shaft. SOLUTION: This shaft construction method constructs the shaft 1, by forming a bottom part of the shaft 1, by placing the bottom plate concrete 3 in the lowest part inside of a steel casing 2, by repeating excavation and earth removal by a required frequency in a plurality of times, by excavating and removing sediment in the steel casing 2, after press-in, by pressing the steel casing 2 in the ground. In the shaft construction method, a recessed sump 4 is formed in the bottom plate concrete 3 placed in the lowest part inside of the steel casing 2; a water cut-off steel plate 6 having a hole part 7 for the sump opposed to the sump 4 formed in the bottom plate concrete 3, is installed over the whole periphery on the inner peripheral side of the steel casing 2 on an upper surface of the bottom plate concrete 3 by welding; and a water cut-off tool 8 for the sump for blocking up a hole part 7 for the sump, is installed in the hole part 7 for the sump of the water cut-off steel plate 6.
