GLAUCOMA TREATMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating glaucoma, comprising administering to a human patient a medicine comprising a substance antagonizing glutamate-induced toxicity promotion only in an amount effective to cause reduction of such excitotoxicity. SOLUTION: Elevated glutamate levels are associated with glaucoma, and damage to retinal ganglion cells can be controlled by administering to the patient a compound capable of reducing glutamate-induced toxicity promotion in a concentration effective to cause reduction of such toxicity promotion.
