PURPOSE:To enable simplification of a circuit, to enable a free port to be used for other purpose and enable a reduction in the number of component parts, by performing color control based on information obtained by combining two pieces of output information from a sensor for checking the presence or absence of a color ribbon and a sensor for detecting a home position of the color ribbon. CONSTITUTION:An output from a sensor 3 for checking the presence or absence of a color ribbon and an output from a sensor 4 for detecting a home position of the ribbon are combined into a signal, and the states of the sensors are confirmed by a microprocessor 1. The state of the output to an input port 2 varies depending on the state of the ribbon home sensor when the ribbon sensor 3 is ON, and the state of the output is OFF any time when the ribbon sensor 3 is OFF. At the time of initial setting of a printer, the home sensor of the ribbon is first checked. Since the home sensor 4 is in an ON state at this time, when an input to the sensor is found ON, it is judged that the color ribbon is present, and thereafter an output from the sensor is regarded as a ribbon home signal, and control is performed. When the input to the sensor is OFF, it is judged that the color ribbon is absent, and thereafter control of the color ribbon is not performed. |
