The method involves controlling the charger with an electrical signal from a control unit to produce an air flow and/or overpressure in the induction tract and/or in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine. The electrical charger is operated when the internal combustion engine is not being operated, e.g. when the engine is switched off and in vehicle coasting mode.
