PURPOSE:To obtain the titled emulsion external preparation having excellent stability, by blending a fatty acid which is liquid at ordinary temperature with a carboxylic acid dialkyl ester. CONSTITUTION:The aimed emulsion external preparation containing (A) 0.5-5.0wt.% diclofenac sodium which is a nonsteroid antiinflammatory and analgesic agent, (B) 0.5-20wt.% fatty acid which is a liquid at ordinary temperature, preferably 6-18C fatty acid (especially oleic acid, linoleic acid, etc.) and (C) 0.25-50wt.% carboxylic acid dialkyl ester, e.g. 12-22C adipic acid dialkyl ester or 14-22C sebacic acid dialkyl ester as essential ingredients. A blend ratio of B to C is preferably 1:1-1:5. Each ingredient is preferably blended at the following amount: A=1.0-3.2%; B=1.0-10%; C=0.5-20% and when an oil content having lower polarity than fatty acid and nonionic surfactant are further blended, emulsifying stability of the agent is improved.
