PURPOSE: A method for producing a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery using coprecipitation is provided to improve the density, capacity, thermal stability and service life without causing transition to a spinel, thereby obtaining hydroxides with high density and homogeneous size. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery using coprecipitation comprises: preparing hydroxides by a coprecipitation method; mixing the resulted hydroxides with a lithium compound; and sintering the mixture, wherein the resulted cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery has a formula of Li(LiaNibCocMndMe)O2, wherein a+2b+3c+4d+6e=3, a+b+c+d=1, 0<=a<0.1, 0.5<=b<1, 0<=c<0.5, 0.5<=d<1, 0.01<=e<=0.1, and M is a transition metal. |
