Exothermic rod for underwater oxygen thermal cutting of metals with autonomous ignition consists of a shell, inside which, along its length, one or several elements of the material are located, which burns in oxygen with high specific heat of combustion. Major part of the rod contains a common cartridge, length of which makes 0.1 - 0.2 of the length of rod, said cartridge having central opening with a diameter of 1 - 3 mm and contains a percussion cap initiator located in the rear surface of said cartridge with a shift from the central opening in the radial direction in such a manner that a cross connection between the side of percussion cap and the wall of central opening would be of thickness not less than 1 - 3 mm. Igniting cartridge has an opening with a diameter of 1 - 2 mm, axis of which is parallel to the axis of central opening and is directed perpendicularly to the front surface of percussion cap initiator, moreover, into this opening a pointed striker is inserted in such a manner that it protrudes from the front surface of igniting cartridge for 2 - 3 mm.
