The method for diagnosing the severity of the pulmonary hypertension in the newborns with hypoxic and traumatic injuries of CNS provides for X-ray examination of the thorax for assessing the state of the pulmonary artery, the heart, and the pulmonary pattern. Moore index, Shvedel index and cardiothoracic index (CTI) are measured. When Moore index is 36-40 %, Shvedel index is 0.4-0.5 cm, and CTI is 55-59 %, the mild pulmonary hypertension is diagnosed. When Moore index is 41-45 %, Shvedel index is 0.5-0.6 cm, and CTI is 60-64 %, the moderate pulmonary hypertension is evident. Finally, the severe pulmonary hypertension is diagnosed, when Moore index exceeds 46 %, Shvedel index exceeds 0.7 cm, and CTI exceeds 65 %.
