PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head adaptable to either type of a head having only a recording/playback head part or having the recording/playback head part and an erasing head part, and equipped with an easily attached shield cover, and to provide a tape medium recording/playback device equipped with the magnetic head. SOLUTION: The magnetic head Hc is provided with: a magnetic head part 11 equipped with a core 7 housed in a shield case 13 to expose its gap part G; and a shield cover 15 attached to the upper part of the shield cover 15. The shield cover 15 is provided with: a substrate 15a superposed on a shield case upper surface 13b; a shield surface 15d; a side face locking part 15b formed to project from a side face 13c; a backside locking part 15e; and a fixing catch 15c projected from the substrate 15a to be engaged with a medium sliding surface 13d.
