A method and device for controlling a wiper, actively regulating, in accordance with traveling circumstances, a wipe determination condition for determining a wiping condition of a wiper. Traveling circumstances are determined by performing comprehensive determination based on motor vehicle condition information, such as travel and stop, and traveling condition information, such as rainfall conditions. In accordance with the determined traveling circumstances, a wipe determination condition for determining a wiping condition of a wiper is regulated. The wipe determination condition includes detection sensitivity for rain drops adhered to a detecting surface and a corresponding relationship etc. between a rainfall level and a wipe level.
