An annular shield is provided for an electrometallurgical furnace incorporating a hearth containing a metal bath, at least one electrode and at least one electrical connection device (11) including at least one ring (12) surrounding the electrode. The shield (23) extends around the electrode, at a distance above the surface of the bath, and extends at least partially underneath the ring in the proximity of the electrode. An independent claim is also included for a furnace incorporating at least one electrode provided with this shield.
