The method involves measuring and temporally sampling a rotation speed signal with a constant temporal sampling period. A temporal frequency analysis of the sampled signal is effectuated so as to identify a frequency window comprising a band corresponding to harmonics of signal frequency of a signal of a coder. A characteristics value of the band is compared with a corresponding value of a reference signal so as to determine the difference. An independent claim is also included for an application of a determination method to determine differential speed between two wheels of a motor vehicle.
