Composting system uses barge hull with gas injectors for forced ventilation and grid-covered floor channels for leachate and gas outlet flows

The composting system uses a barge hull (3), e.g. 25 m long by 4 m wide, with an inner metal liner (2) and channels in its floor (4) covered by grids (5). It is fitted with a gas injection system (7) to provide forced ventilation of the waste material (10) being composted, and a tank to collect leachate that runs along the floor channels while the waste is being composted under a waterproof cover (6). Gases extracted from the composting waste are passed through a biofilter containing natural products such as pine bark before being released into the outside air. The barge, which can be towed, pushed or self-propelled, has a power unit for its own electricity supply.
