PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measurement method and device for performing measurement at low cost while dispensing with a large-sized scanning mechanism even when measuring the outer diameters of a plurality of filaments. SOLUTION: This filament outer diameter measurement method and its filament outer diameter measurement device are characterized in that: a shape measurement means, a signal processing means, a scanning means, and a measurement roll are used; the surface shape of a prescribed filament is measured by the measurement means while causing the canning means to scan a plurality of filaments on the measurement roll; the surface of the measurement roll and the top part of the filament are recognized by the processing means from the obtained surface shape; and the outer diameter of the filament is measured from a difference between them in height.
