PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator where returnability of a refrigerating machine oil to a compressor is improved. SOLUTION: This refrigerator has the compressor 12 installed at the top portion or an upper rear portion of a refrigerator body 1 and has a freezing cycle 18 using hydrocarbon as the refrigerant and a mineral oil as the refrigerating machine oil, whereby the speed of flow in piping is increased and solubility of the refrigerant to the refrigerating machine oil is increased, and this can increase the amount of return of the refrigerating machine oil from an evaporator 9 to the compressor 12. Even in the case where plenty of rising piping of condensation piping easily lowering a circulation property is used, the flow speed in the piping in operation can be remarkably increased by using hydrocarbon-based isobutane or the like as a refrigerant and thereby the circulation property of the refrigerating machine oil being a mineral oil mixed with the refrigerant in conjunction with the increase of the flow speed can be ensured.
