METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCING GLASS-WOOL INSULATOR TO BE BLOWN

PURPOSE:To reduce the density and to improve the dustproofness, water repellency and applicability of the insulator by opening the glass fiber treated with a specified processing agent with a garnet machine. CONSTITUTION:The glass melted in a melting furnace 1 is supplied to a centrifugal glass fiber thinning device 4 from the nozzle 3 of a fore hearth 2 and formed into a glass fiber 5 by the flame current of a draw burner. A processing agent consisting of a mixture of liq. paraffin and silicone, without any adhesive property and having water repellency and dustproofness is sprayed and deposited on the fiber 5 by 0.5-3.0 wt.% from a spray nozzle 6, the coated fiber is supplied to a wool aggregating conveyor 8 having a suction device 7, and the obtained glass wool aggregate 9 is supplied to a conveyor 10 and dried by a drier 11 to obtain a glass wool aggregate 12. The aggregate 12 is supplied to a gap 36 between the feed roller 24 and guide plate 26 of a garnet machine 13 and opened into irregularly-shaped small blocks by the edge 40 of an opening roller 22 and a discharge end 27. The blocks are sent to a packer 18 through transport pipes 16 and 17 and a blower 15 and packed to obtain a compressed package 19.
