OPTICAL FILM, POLARIZATION PLATE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

[PROBLEMS] To provide an optical film for liquid crystal display that in production, permits wide control of the phase difference of transmitted light, and that in use in a liquid crystal display, avoids decoloring (coloration) and light leakage at black display, and realizes high contrast in all directions, etc., exerting excellent viewing angle compensating effects. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] There is provided an optical film characterized by having a film-a layer of cycloolefin resin and a film-b layer of polyimide resin or polyetherimide resin, preferably satisfying the relationships of the formulae: (1) 200 nm = Rth = 1000 nm, and (2) 0 = R550 = 200 nm (wherein Rth and R550 represent the phase difference in film thickness direction and phase difference in film plane each at a wavelength of 550 nm, respectively).
