<p>A method of producing a battery comprises the steps of receiving a power generating element (3) in a battery case (2) which is elliptic in cross section, disposing a sealing member (5) in an opening in the battery case (2) through a gasket, and sealing the opening in the battery case (2) by inwardly crimping the same, wherein the crimping of the end edge (2a) of the longer surface of the battery case (2) in the sealing step is effected at a forming surface (17) of arcuate cross section, while the crimping of the end edge (2b) of an arcuate surface which connects the opposite end surfaces of the longer surface is effected at a planar forming surface (18), thereby providing a battery having a seal throughout the periphery of the opening in the battery case (2), which seal is uniform, superior in closability and highly reliable, the battery being superior in safety, having no danger of leakage of liquid.</p> |
