<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an interface of the arrangement of character strings and ruled lines to be easily understood in generating a document or the like where the character strings and the ruled lines are mixed with each other to enhance convenience of processing of a mixed document; and in particular, to allow a relationship between the character strings and the ruled lines to be easily understood when the sizes of characters constituting the character strings can freely be set. <P>SOLUTION: In relation to regions divided by ruled lines or regions integrated by deleting the ruled lines when a ruled line is inserted in a row where a row attribute such as right adjustment or equal arrangement is set or an existing ruled line is deleted, the row attribute is restored to an initial setting; and a space is calculated and inserted so as to keep the arrangement position of the character string by tabs or indentation as it is.
