<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic dictionary device corresponding to a user by displaying a retrieval result according to knowledge of Chinese characters of every user. <P>SOLUTION: This electronic dictionary device is provided with: a designation means for designating an arbitrary character in a character string displayed in a display part when the character string of a meaning, reading or the like is displayed on the display part by inputting an entry word; a conversion means for converting the character designated by the designation means to Hiragana(s) or Katakana(s) when it is a Chinese character and for converting the character(s) to a Chinese character when the designated character(s) is (are) Hiragana(s) or Katakana(s); and a character dressing means for providing a character ornament to the Hiragana(s) or Katakana(s) obtained by converting a character by the conversion means when the character designated by the designation means is a Chinese character.
