PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely complete END search even at a tape position where an ATN such as an unrecorded part cannot be obtained, relating to an END search function of searching the recording end position by referring to an absolute track number of an recording end position. SOLUTION: END search is performed if it is a recording area where a reproduction ATN can be obtained, and the END search is interrupted if it is an unrecorded area where the reproduction ATN cannot be obtained, but the END search is performed again after searching an area where the reproduction ATN can be obtained.
