PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating organic sludge, the energy cost and equipment cost of which can be reduced by reducing required equipment and saving the energy to be used in a reaction and the usage of water for adjusting viscosity as far as possible, when organic sludge is converted into a flammable solid raw material and the flammable solid raw material is effectively utilized as fuel or the like, and to provide a method for treating organic sludge. SOLUTION: This apparatus for treating organic sludge is constituted so that organic sludge is treated at high temperature in high pressure to produce a slurried material and the slurried material is dehydrated so that a dehydrated solid is recovered and the separated liquid is cleaned in a water treatment facility. When organic sludge is treated at high temperature in high pressure, such a batchwise reaction is performed that a fixed amount of the organic sludge is packed and reacted for a predetermined time while being heated, pressurized and agitated by blowing pressurized steam from a pressurized steam blowing means.
